âWe know youâre upset with them, but we asked them not to tell you.â Dad has been talking in circles for the last few minutes.
Iâm hurt by Dad and Kel as well. The most frustrating thing is that I know Iâm making a big deal out of the fact that everyone wanted me safe.
Deep down I know thereâs more to it than being lied to, or rather not being told everything. They didnât exactly lie, but they didnât tell me the truth either.
Itâs that my feelings for them are bigger than anything Iâve ever experienced. Now that this is over, what comes next? Are we together forever?
We are too young for that, right? I mean theyâll get bored of me at some point and then the break will be worse and the hurt unfathomable.
It already is. Keeping them away will hurt now, just as it would later.
I take deep breaths and am unaware of my fallen tears until suddenly Ash is catching them with his fingers.
He sits on my bed and brings me to his chest. âIâm so sorry,â Ash whispers against the top of my head.
âI did what I wanted. It was selfish, I know that, but I was so deathly afraid of something happening to you. Iâll leave you alone forever if I have to. It will be hard, but Iâll do it. I love you, Cas, for now and forever. There are things I need to tell you, but they have to wait until youâre better. Can you give me later?â Ash backs away to look into my eyes. His amber ones are blood shot and desperate.
The guys appear behind him, and I nod. Before I can say anything back to him, a nurse comes in the room, yelling.
âUnbelievable. You two have been out for two days and as soon as you wake up, youâre already causing trouble. You canât just leave your bed when you please after what youâve been through, Mr. Harlow.â Ash pays the nurse no mind as he kisses me with a chaste, soft peck on the lips.
He gets up and follows her out. Not before looking at Kel. âSorry about your hand, man.â His words draw my eyes to Kelâs hands. One is missing.
Ash is gone, but the others are still standing around the end of my bed. âWhat happened?â I ask. Kel laughs.
âHad to cut it off to escape.â He holds up the arm with the missing hand.
âAsh must have seen it in the warehouse room I was kept in.â My stomach churns as I vaguely remember seeing something that resembled a dead animal.
âThatâs what that was?â the guys say while Iâm still thinking about it. Kel chuckles and nods. I fail to see why he finds this so funny.
Although Kel and I do use dark humor to survive mentally. I suppose I shouldnât be shocked, but Iâm upset for him.
âItâll be fine. I can still fight with one hand and Iâll teach myself to fight with my forearm. Letâs not make this about me, okay?â Kel presses.
